How to Transition from Fall to Winter Décor
/Fall to Winter Décor
Winter – the season that brings one of the most wonderful times of the year. With temperatures dropping and, let’s face it, COVID-19 rising again, you’re going to be spending more time indoors. Temperatures may be cold, but your décor doesn’t have to be. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s officially time for a Winter transition. Giving your home a seasonal lift filled with warm and cozy design elements might be exactly what you need to keep your spirits bright.
Here are a few tips for making this year’s fall to winter décor transition your best one yet.
Rethink the Furniture
Rearranging your furniture offers an easy and affordable way to spice up any room in your home. Rethinking your furniture allows you to breathe new life into spaces and appreciate them more than you may have previously. As we head back into lockdown, this change of the season is the perfect way to give your home a much-needed makeover.
Winter is the IDEAL time to create cozy corners and warm, snug personal spaces. Pull your furniture away from the walls and circle it around the fireplace to design a welcoming and cordial conversation area. However, before you make changes, it’s always best to have a plan so you can maximize your spaces. Have your plan drawn out so you can visualize the end goal before committing to the heavy lifting.
It’s all in the Details
Details, in our opinion, can make or break a room’s ambiance. They’re also small enough to make seasonal transitions an easier task. Not everyone wants to break the bank with transitions, but there are a few easy ways to upgrade your living space into a warm and cozy (winter) wonderland:
Add Warmth: Layout thick fabric blankets like wool or fleece in your living room, bedroom and lounge areas for texture in addition to warm-toned throw pillows as temperatures drop.
Hit the accent lights: If you have a fireplace, you’re one step ahead. Fireplaces offer a warm glow that automatically makes you want to cuddle up with a good book and coffee…or wine. If you don’t have one, there are still other ways to set the mood.
Simple ways to bring more accent lights into a space is by adding black lantern lights or lighted twig trees. You can also use candles of different sizes to create a charming effect, especially at night, and make the room feel cozier. PRO TIP: Have an inactive fireplace? Use candles on a multi-tiered candle holder for a makeshift fire in the fireplace, just like we did here.
Neutrals (and naturals) are key: When we think of neutral décor, we think in colors like tan, beige and brown. Updating your color scheme to focus on more neutrals allows you to add and rotate small pops of color for any season.
Decorate with items that have natural details such as wood. Wood is one of the easiest and most versatile decorations. Whether you’re styling firewood logs or dispersing oversized branches throughout your home, wood is an easily adaptable décor item for any season. Along with wood, add evergreen sprigs, pinecones and even seasonal fruits for a little Christmas flair.
Transitioning from season to season doesn’t have to be unapproachable. Rearranging the furniture and adding details are some easy ways to up your interior home design. Remember, home is where the heart is. But let’s face it, it’s 2020 and we’re in the middle of a pandemic so home is where EVERYTHING is and breathing new life into your décor is key.
